Endorsements Meeting

The endorsements meeting is combined into two parts. The “Candidate Meet & Greet” portion usually lasts around 2 hours. We encourage all candidates who are interested in seeking our endorsement to come to the Meet & Greet. During the Meet & Greet, we will allow one minute for candidates to speak- except in any races we held a separate debate for.

The “Meet & Greet” meeting is then adjourned, and the “Endorsements” meeting is convened. During the Endorsements meeting, only members of the King County Young Democrats are allowed to take part. Every candidate must be nominated and seconded by a dues paying member of KCYD. Each candidate can then have a member speak for them for no longer than two minutes, with one person speaking against endorsement for two minutes. After this, members will hold a vote for endorsement; if 66 percent of the membership vote for a candidate, they are endorsed. All candidates will be considered for sole endorsement first before a motion for a dual endorsement is in order.

Voting members must pay their dues prior to the endorsements meeting in order to qualify as a voting member, so long as they live in King County and are under the age of 36. The “Candidate Meet & Greet” portion does count as a full meeting, so members are allowed to pay dues at the beginning of the two meetings.
